In October, Petrochemicals Europe organised a Webinar for young employees of the petrochemicals industry to provide them with an insight into recent EU policy and technological developments related to our industry. It focused especially on the EU Green Deal and its impact on our sector.

Over 40 youngsters took part in the event. They were actively engaged and asked many questions. The first part of the event covered the EU Green Deal, the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability and the EU recovery plant. It featured Justin Van Schepen, EU Policy & Advocacy Researcher, Cefic and Marcelo Vollmann, Advocacy Manager, Petrochemicals Europe. The second part dived into the breakthrough technological solutions that can help our industry deliver on the Green Deal. The speakers were Philip de Smedt, Sector Group Manager (Lower Olefins and Aromatics), Cefic and Kevin Van Geem, Full Professor, Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT), Center for Sustainable Chemistry (CSC), Ghent University. They addressed topics such as hydrogen technology, the electrification of crackers and biomass as a feedstock.
